(Let's Hear It) For the Boys

It's always hard to shop for the men in our lives who have everything. Luckily, we have a few local items that might be just perfect.

From the design collective Fieldwork, Anna Gukov has produced a lightweight, vegetable tanned leather wallet perfect for cards. Available in two colour-ways: natural and natural with black accent. Packaged in a canvas gift bag, all handmade in Vancouver.

$75

Josh Doherty of Fieldwork came in and floored us with his beautiful handcrafted cufflinks. Based on an older barbell style cuttlink, sets come in either silver or bronze and are packaged in a leather carrying case.

Bronze $105
Silver $150

Pyrrha jewelry is Vancouver-based but draw from a rich past of 18th and 19th Century wax seals. Symbolic and inspirational, each have a unique meaning. Talisman necklaces are unisex and available in silver or bronze. A small sample of what's in store:

All Seeing Eye: This seal features an all seeing eye and reads "May it Watch Over You".

Fatherhood: This seal features a bull's head signifying a devoted father.

Dagger: In French, this seal reads "Courage Sans Peur", which means "Courage Without Fear". The dagger is a symbol of power, justice and valor.

Precious Drinkware by Kinto

We just received a new shipment from Kinto full of treasures like the Mugtail line.

In store we have the rabbit, kitten and squirrel. The design is slightly different on each side of the cup, giving the mugs playful character.
"Just like forest animals out of a fairytale! Their feathery tails are on matte finished mugs, so Mugtail succeeds in bringing an elegant atmosphere. The sizes are designed to match the animal motif. You can choose each one for your favorite drink or interior decoration such as candle holder or accessory holder, etc."

Mugs are porcelain and microwave safe.
$19 each

Also available are Couture cups in 'Dressed Lace' and 'Knit' patterns. The designs are delicate and cast in porcelain to form these beautiful double-walled cups. A perfect gift.

Made of porcelain with a silicone plug in the base, these cups are microwave and dishwasher safe.

 $20 each

Luminology

We adore these beautiful artisan candles from Luminology, perfect for a cozy night in. Made with soy wax, natural fragrance oils and a unique wooden wick, these candles make a timeless gift for friends or loved ones. We are tempted to pick one out as a treat for ourselves as well..

The porcelain vessels are locally made by artisans in Iowa and can be refilled or re-purposed as handmade decor or tableware. (The glaze is food safe!) In stock we have some staples from their Signature Collection as well as a Holiday 2012 Special Edition: Snowfall, starring white cedar, sugar and frasier fir.

Luminology $59

And we Find Ourselves in December. Time for a Drink?

Let the fun begin with this bar essential:

Like a booze-oriented Swiss Army knife, the Bar10der packs all your drink-making essentials into a single tool. Swing out the arms of the Bar10der and you'll find a bottle opener, corkscrew, channel knife, jigger, muddler, reamer, standard knife, stirrer, and strainer, most of which are made from stainless steel and are therefore tough enough to handle years of mixology abuse.

$58

'Henderson Dry Goods is the work of Vancouver industrial designer Alex Henderson. Her medium is primarily wood, used in a myriad of ways, from jewelry to home décor: mirrors and clocks, mobiles and dioramas. For your home or for you, Henderson Dry Goods products are works of art, disguised as objects of design.'

Alex has created a beautiful collection of hand crafted jewellery (for both women and men), art,  and other treasures for you or your loved ones, just for our show.

Join us as we celebrate the new work of another one of Vancouver's fine talents.

We hope to see you here,

walrus welcomes Menu

Norm Glass Kettle Teapot uniquely embraces the meeting of two traditions - the Asian zen philosophy and modern Scandinavian design.  As a fine design detail the tea egg is placed in the centre of the pot and is easily raised by pulling the attached silicon string when the tea is ready for serving.
Kettle Size: H 21 cm, Dia 13 cm, Capacity: 1.5 litre

Nordic Wool is a thermo cup inspired by the highly fashionable patterns known from Nordic knits.
The cup is a limited edition and has the signature isolating double wall feature that keeps beverages hot, yet prevents that you burn your fingers.
The Thermo Cups keep temperatures steady at both ends of the scale, and so are well-suited to all kinds of refreshing ice-cold or invigorating hot drinks, such as coffee, tea, sake, toddies, punch, smoothies or other fruit drinks. The insulating gap also means that the cups never get too hot to hold.

Menu's patented Decanting Pourer filters, splits, and oxygenates the wine as you pour. Goodbye to decanters and too many bottles opened before dinner, and hello to a grand taste sensation - even when the wine is an everyday table variety. Drip-free and easy to use.

Elegant table mats that can be easily folded together to fit into the cutlery drawer.

The Menu Cool Breather is a patent-pending carafe that does for white wine what has long been considered an absolute must-do for red wine. This revolutionary innovation from Menu aerates and opens up the wine, accelerating the aroma experience and upgrading the taste sensation in one swift process. An integrated re-usable cooling stick in the carafe keeps the aerated white wine fresh and cool. Place the wine bottle on the table and attach the carafe to the bottleneck. The integrated aeration is one of the most effective designs on the market today, handily beating other aerators in a Eurofins aeration test.

it's slipper time! walrus welcomes Padraig and returning fave, Glerups

'Helen made her first pair of slippers for her young son in the winter of 1977, they had a hand cut sheepskin sole and a crocheted upper made with hand spun raw wool.
Though our company has expanded, employing more than thirty local artisans and support staff, we are still independently owned and operated and our premises remain in North Vancouver, ensuring product quality and support of the local community. The slippers too remain largely the same; they are still hand crocheted and hand dyed in small lots, insuring each pair is one of a kind.

Our tagline reads, Return Home, we chose this to remind ourselves of what is important and the core values that are at the heart of Padraig Cottage Ind.'

we adore these adorable handmade slippers and have been waiting a while to get them in...available in store for babes 3 months old, 1 year old and 2 years old.
